William Candler first showed up in Ireland in 1648 as Captain in the regiment Commanded by Sir Hardress Waller. He advanced to Lt. Col. and was awarded the Barony of Callan and Callan Castle near Kilkenny in the division of the spoils after the fall of Ireland.
