Woke to a bright, sunny day. Today we go from Acton Bridge to the Anderton Boat Lift. Just a hop and a skip but we have to be there for an appointment to be lifted up to the Trent & Mersey canal from the River Weaver.

While short, the trip provided some interesting experiences. The Runcorn Rowing Club was practicing on the River Weaver this morning. The image on the left is a crew while the one on the right shows one of the coaches (on the single person catamaran with the motor). There were a lot more rowing crews on this stretch of the river this morning.

Even folks in England are Gator fans!!!! There have been fewer of the beautiful Hawthorne shrubs along the River than on the canals - here's one along the River Weaver

We reached the boat lift early so we had to moor a short distance down river to await our appointed time to load. This gave me a chance to walk up to the lift and get some photos of it in action. The upper image shows a narrow boat in the lower (right) "tub". The left hand tub is at the top being loaded with another boat coming down. The second shot shows the two tubs going up (right) and coming down (left). Finally, the left hand tub has bottomed, opened and the narrow boat is exiting into the River Weaver.

Now it's our turn. In the first photo, the gate is open and, in the center image, we are approaching. In the third photo, we are in the tub and the gate is closing.

The upper tub is being filled in the left hand photo. It's coming down and we're going up in the center image and the Edwin, a day tour boat, passes going down in the right hand photo.

The gallery watches us come up from the gift shop. In the center photo, here's our outlet but the gate is still closed. And, finally, we exit the tub.

That is the Trent & Mersey canal at the end of this chute. Right photo: And we're outta here!

We exited the boat lift pool into the Trent & Mersey Canal and moored near the museum.

Shortly after mooring, here came the ubiquous ducks! We had lunch, relaxed for a while, then went to the museum. After touring the museum, we came back to the boat and had dinner, watched some TV and finally turned in. Tomorrow we go to Daresbury, the home of Louis Caroll and center for Alice In Wonderland stuff.
