Day 16, May 30 The Moorings To Manchester

Woke up to overcast and a bit cold. After a breakfast of Frank's "French Crumpets", we struck out back down the canal to mid-town Manchester. The route is shown on the Google Earth image above.
And as soon as we are underway, more flowers along the Canal.
What's this . . . a mammal!!! The first animal we've seen on the canal other than dogs!
Yellow irises among the industry is surprising.
A swan with signets cruising the canal. This Industrial section doesn't seem like a very good place to bring up a family (grin).
The profusion of wild flowers in this urban area continuess to amaze us. Dot was particularly intrigued by the rather sudden appearance of numerous foxgloves (reddish purple flower in the right hand image) as we entered Manchester. We had only rarely seen these previously on the cruise.
Canada Geese also seem to find the urban environment satisfactory.
The canal runs beside Old Trafford, the Manchester Union Soccer Stadium.

This Google Earth image of the area of Manchester shows where we moored for the first night. This is the old Potato Wharf. We wandered up to the Museum of Science and Industry, then into mid-town to find a pharmacy. We tried to get to the Tourist Information Center which was suposed to be in a building right at the mooring but it was closed and, it turns out, had moved down town. We returned to Hawkeye, had dinner and settled in for the night.
